ABOUT ME

Hi, I am Silvia Vanarelli and people mostly call me Silvia which I prefer, that is Silvia with an I please. I was born in Italy, Rome. I am proud to be half Italian and half Vietnamese. I love to travel and I have been given the opportunity not only to visit, but to live in several countries from a young age. For those of you who would like to know, the countries that I have lived in are: Indonesia (Jakarta), Sri Lanka (Colombo), Italy, (Rome), U.A.E.-United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), and Canada (Toronto). I believe that traveling is a wonderful way to expand ones knowledge and horizon about the different cultures that exist in this world.

My lifestyle has led me to want to pursue a career in the Hospitality and Tourism industry. This is perhaps why I am in my 4th year in the Bachelor of Applied Business: Hospitality Operations Management Degree program at George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario. Once I graduate, I would like to find a job that will allow me to travel or interact with people from different backgrounds. I am still debating whether I would like to get into the Hotel or the Tourism industry.

Since both my parents have a large family, I am very family oriented and I love being around people who are important to me, such as my family and friends. As Henry David Thoreau said, "Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes." Coming from two different cultures and having traveled a lot, you might wonder what languages I speak. Firstly, I really do enjoy learning different languages and it certainly is an asset to know more than one language. Secondly, at home I speak Italian; in school I speak English; I took French as my second language in school; I barely speak Vietnamese, but at least my mom’s side of the family understands me when I speak Vietnamese; I took the fundamentals of Spanish last year; and I learned the very basics of Arabic, which I thought made my calligraphy simply marvellous, as I am a left-handed person and in Arabic you do write from right to left.

In the summer, I had the opportunity to work for Jonview Canada, a leading in-bound tour operator as a packaging coordinator in field operations. This was an experience that allowed me to see how the traveling business functions, not to mention the interesting people I have met

Mom, Maurizio, and I on my little brother's graduation, call him little!

HOW WOULD YOU USE A BLOG TO BUILD CORPORATE CREDIBILITY FOR YOUR TOURISM COMPANY?

Using blogs on a regular basis help clients connect with the company and the company in return connects with the market. When a tourism company uses responsive communication, they are creating a bond with the clients, because they make customers feel like the company is actually listening to them, that they care about their opinions. In blogs, people can feel free to express their concerns and they ofcourse expect and will receive feedback if the tourism company is credible. They will intake what their customers have to say about the product and/or service and find solutions to improving its own business. By allowing the customers to feel free to post their comments about the tourism company, signifies that the company is loyal to their customers as people are a good sourse of advertisement, but they can also damage a company depending on how they feel and what they say about the business to society. This gives total control to the customers and therefore, gives credibility to the readers. Text and photos can also be a source of credibility as they are the fastest and easiest way to attract and grab the client’s attention, as well as a simple way of conveying a message, after all a picture is worth a thousand words. Videos are also a good strategy for giving the viewers the ability to experience events that might interest them, an example could be a 360 view of a panorama, a wonder of the world, or of a hotel. Youtube has become a well known distribution channel as it is free and it exposes to a global market. If companies were to allow employees and employers to use blogs, having employees contribute and share their viewpoints in this case about a tourism company in my opinion, it would be a great source of credibility, because different market segments have different views about the same company as they see things from a different perspective.

WHAT I EXPECT TO GAIN FROM HOST 4103

The use of the Internet is rapidly increasing and it has become a necessity for most organizations. It has developed into a good source of advertising for many corporations and I believe it is another tool to explain the concept of word of mouth. In today’s 21st century, businesses look for opportunities to expand their commerce, to be innovative, to increase their products and/or services, and so forth through technology, the Internet, e-marketing, e-commerce. I am aware that it is more convenient for people to use e-commerce, as it is more cost effective, efficient, less time consuming, people and organizations receive interactive response and feedback, not to mention the global reach of the Internet. I would like to gain knowledge of the latest strategies for effective e-marketing. I also expect to learn about the various channels of e-marketing. Moreover, what are the weaknesses in e-marketing? How does e-marketing differ from IT/MIS (Information Technology/Management Information systems)? I would like to know how to use e-commerce to sell and buy products and/or services through the Internet. I am aware that there are many policies and laws that I need to understand because of hackers whose primary goals are to ruin a company or even steal one’s personal identity. Another interesting topic is becoming familiar with what products and/or services are in high demand today and in the future. For this manner, I look forward to learning about e-marketing.
